The December 21 total lunar eclipse belongs to Saros 125 a series of 72 eclipses in the following sequence: 17 penumbral, 13 partial, 26 total, 9 partial, and 7 penumbral lunar eclipses. Celestron would like to invite you to join us in observing the last Total Lunar Eclipse of 2010! On December 21st observers in North America will have the rare opportunity to view a total lunar eclipse! It has been almost three years since the last total lunar eclipse visible from the US, and the next event will not occur until December 2011. The moon’s orbit will take it behind the Earth's shadow, slowly darkening the moon until it reaches total eclipse. The moon will stay in totality for 1 hour and 12 minutes and may be colored red, orange, slate grey, or other similar shades. One of the exciting aspects of a total lunar eclipse is that nobody quite knows what color the moon will appear.
